Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ Flipped Into Donald Trump Diss by Brass Band Outside NABJ Convention

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” has invaded the political world, as a brass brand flipped the Mustard-produced anthem into a Donald Trump diss.

With Donald Trump speaking at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago on Wednesday, a group of musicians protested the appearance outside. The crew played their horns to the Cali bounce of Kendrick’s Billboard Hot 100-topping Drake diss, but changed the chorus to a repeated “Trump’s not like us.”

“Not the White men outside the convention having more sense than the National Association of Black Journalists,” wrote the person who posted the musical clip to X. “They changed the lyrics to ‘They Not Like Us’ to ‘Trump’s Not Like Us.’”

Many applauded the brass band for taking a stand outside the NABJ convention. “Wow! Who thought the day would come that the yt dudes would shame the blck dudes on beat and be all the way right,” one person wrote.

Another said in shock: “Wow… Now I can successfully say that I’ve seen it all.”

Trump’s appearance infuriated many in attendance at the NABJ conference at the Hilton Chicago, which saw DT question Vice President Kamala Harris’ Black identity, per the Chicago Sun-Times. “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black,” Trump said onstage of Harris. “So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?”

With the calendar turning to August, the U.S. is officially 96 days out from the anticipated 2024 presidential election, with the former president set to face off with likely Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.

Harris hosted her first rally earlier this week in Atlanta, where “Not Like Us” was played inside and had the ATL crowd buzzing. Footage of the audience quickly went viral as they chanted along to the chorus along with “wop, wop, wop” and “A minor” punch lines.

It’s been over three months following the release of “Not Like Us,” and the Drake diss’ momentum isn’t waning. The track is still holding strong at No. 3 on the Hot 100 dated Aug. 3, after two nonconsecutive weeks atop the chart.

Both Megan Thee Stallion and Quavo hit the stage at Harris’ rally to endorse the vice president on Tuesday night (July 30) — adding their names to the laundry list of artists to back Harris. Meg performed a medley while Huncho spoke out in support of gun control.
